15th September 2006: launch of new free standing stern mount system
Ampair launched their new free standing stern mount system for their Ampair 300 marine micro wind generator at the Southampton Boat Show.
Ampair has been the choice of the global yachting community since 1974. With this long legacy the company truly understands the need for strength and reliability and the demands and restrictions that yachtsmen face in the marine environments where its products are used.
A well designed and engineered marine wind turbine like the Ampair 300 needs an equally well engineered mounting system to bring out the best in the turbine. Traditional wind turbine mounting systems pose problems fitting to modern backstay systems. A radical re-design was needed and Ampair set out to work with Scanstrut, specialist manufacturers of mounting systems, to produce a new generation, free standing stern mount system.
The system comes in kit form and consists of a 2.5m long, 3” diameter aluminium, white powder coated pole which accepts the spigot of the generator. The base has a universal ball and socket for easy mounting to any deck angle on the stern of the yacht. Two adjustable stainless steel bracing struts clamp to the pole at their upper ends and mount to the deck at their lower ends. These resist the thrust and inertial loads of the wind turbine. A stainless steel guardrail bracing strut is also included.
The power cable from the generator connects inside the plug and socket in the pole and it exits at the base through the deck. Connection below deck is to a matched stop switch, ammeter and appropriate regulator and then to the yacht’s batteries. The system will also accept other Ampair marine wind generators: the Ampair 100 wind turbine and the Aquair 100 wind conversion module.
1st May 2006 : announcement of Ampair 600 micro wind turbine
AMPAIR announce the Ampair 600 micro wind turbine. This is a micro wind turbine aimed at householders and other small users (i.e. home owners, schools and small companies) It is both of use for remote locations without grid electricity supply (the battery charging version); and also for homes etc that are connected to the grid to supply base load electricity (the grid tie version)
Ampair is the oldest UK manufacturer of micro wind, water and hybrid generators. For over thirty years it has been the brand of choice for the global yachting community. This is an expert and discriminating audience who look for a turbine that not only delivers power, but is also robust, quiet and elegant.
Half a year ago Ampair launched the Ampair 300. This 0.3kW battery charge micro turbine is primarily aimed at the leisure marine and remote location market, situations where no grid supply is available. The Ampair 600 is a new wind turbine. With a rotor diameter of only 1.7 meters, and an output of 0.6kW, it’s designed to meet the growing demand from householders for a renewable energy source. A battery charge version for the remote location market will also be available.
A wind turbine is an investment in the long-term. So it’s reassuring to know that Ampair has been the choice of the global yachting community since 1974. Ampair is backed by Boost Energy Systems, specialists in distributed energy since 1957 and recent winners of awards for market-leading research and development. www.ampair.com
1st January 2006 : introduction of FlexCell flexible solar panels to UK
AMPAIR announce the introduction of FlexCell flexible solar panels to the UK and Ireland. After a long period of product testing and collaborative contribution to product development Ampair are proud to become the exclusive UK distributor of FlexCell solar photovoltaic panels. The FlexCell range of Sunslick and Sunpack, offer a solution for rugged remote power for campers, sailors, researchers, media crews, and general leisure use. These solar panels are the only good quality panels available on the market and have superceded the now obsolete panels from UniSolar which have ceased production. They are manufactured in Switzerland using the unique VHF process. Detailed information on products and pricing can be found at www.flexcell.com and www.ampair.com, and they can be purchased online on the Ampair web shop.
