The most common agricultural use for small wind turbines is as a power source for semi-mobile equipment such as poultry and livestock shelters. The shelter can be fitted with a pole mounted microturbine and solar panel feeding a 12 volt DC battery bank and 110 volt or 220 volt AC inverter. The power from this can supply any required machinery such as food and water dispensers, surveillance and monitoring equipment, and automated gates etc. The mobile shelters can then be easily moved around the farm without the need to install electricity hook up points or expensive and trouble prone generators.
Another common use for small wind turbines and solar panels is to supply electrified fences. Indeed this is how a couple of microwind turbine companies got their start in life.
Fixed farm buildings and fixed surveillance equipment can be supplied just as for domestic and commercial buildings.
